Banff, Calgary etc
The ski season has ended here at Big White ... the once fluffy white snow has been transformed into dirty brown mud, skiers and boarders have been replaced with construction workers and the tranquil mountain air has been shattered by the noise of trucks and excavators. It's sad that it is all over but it was an epic season. I got plenty of snowboarding time in and even went to the pub for an "occasional" beer .. hahaha, not to mention all the cool people I have met. As Murphy's law would have it, it dumped snow for about a week after the lifts closed.
Myself and a mate did a road trip through the Rocky Mountains to Calgary last week. It was good times! We stayed in Calgary for about 5 nights and I caught up with heaps of old mates that I studied with there a few years ago. We stayed on campus at the University of Calgary which was awesome. We went hiking in Kananaskis National Park, explored the city and got a taste of the nightlife.

Whilst we were at the UofC there was a massive party called Bermuda Shorts Day which is to celebrate the last day of classes for the year. We busted out the board shorts and joined the 9000+ students in the beer gardens for a day of partying and dancing. It was great fun!

On the way back to Kelowna we stopped for a few nights in Banff, a very picturesque little town nestled amongst the Rocky Mountains. We did all the touristy things and the hostel there was full of ex Big White employees so there was plenty of familiar faces. We did a trip to Lake Louise but didn't go boarding unfortunately as we left our gear back at Big White.

Getting back to Big White proved to be quite a difficult task. We hitch hiked on the road leading up to Big White for 3 hours but not one person stopped, so we ended up hiring a car. I'm up at Big White at the moment as I have a weeks work up here. It's a total ghost town, nothing is open and no one is around. It's just myself and one other flatmate left in the house, it's quite eerie! I'm outta here on Friday .. I'm off to find a job for the summer and a new place to call home.
I've been applying for jobs all over the place so I'm not sure where I'll end up! I'll be working up till the end of July then it's off to Europe where myself and an Aussie mate are hiring a car for 2 months! Can't wait! .... Bring it on! |
